Stories A Stump Can Tell

Layered and sequenced, this piece is a movement of vignettes. The images are comprised of drawings, collages video footage and experiments with light. All sounds created by me using analog semimodular synthesizers, effects pedals and some digital processing. I originally performed the sound components live in front of an audience while the video was projected large scale. The audio was recreated in my studio to accompany this formant.

All Good Things

This Music Has No Song

25 track album available on most streaming platforms. To call it an “album” seems like a stretch to me - really it’s a compilation of compositions, sound experiments, ambient landscapes, glitchy beats and patterns… and other adventures. Elements created in the tracks span 2 years, several states and 2 countries. I’ve already published a few video pieces which are accompanied by some of tracks in this compilation. *Click on playlist icon on upper right of video to see and play each track on the album individually.

Imamiya Shrine

Created and recorded live (mostly) at Imamiya Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. This video combines layers of drawings made in Kyoto and footage captured of the shrine grounds with the live making of the sound. The sound piece was created with SpaceCraft granular synth, PO 33, additional sound from Arturia Microfreak, recorded on Zoom H6. Headphones or quality speakers highly recommended.

Sequenced Sound on the Hikari Shinkansen from Kyoto to Tokyo.

2 short composition sounds and beats created, sequenced and recorded using the PO-33, while riding the Hikari Shinkansen super express train from Kyoto to Tokyo and back. Recorded on the Zoom H6. Plus integration of art. Headphones or quality speakers recommended.

Halloween

This video was projected large scale, 8 ft. x 15 ft., during Halloween evening. I created the sound live at the event using semimodular synthesizers, effects pedals and other analog instruments (the current audio for this video, I also created but it’s much simpler than the live performance).

Skipping Out

The majority of this video footage was shot during hikes around Pine Mountain and Haystack Mountain in Norfolk, CT. The overlaying images are a combination of scanned analog drawings, cyanotypes and digital collage. I created the sound piece entirely in Norfolk using a variety of analog semi modular synthesizers and other instruments. As usual - headphones or quality external speakers highly recommended!

Ditmas Park

2021. 56 min 13 sec. Performed in early Autumn in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. A layered mix of live footage and still images to accompany the audio. What’s especially interesting (to me, at least), is that it incorporates drawing, painting, collage using both analog and digital methods… same with the sound and instruments. Eventually I’ll exhibit paintings, drawings and video in the same gallery/project space, or even a public facing venue. Instruments include semi-modular, analog and digital synthesizers. Headphones or quality speakers highly recommended. Volume up.

Power

2021. 3min 51sec. Digital collage animation and sound work. Sound created with semi-modular synthesizer. Images of power lines were taken in Kyoto, Nagoya, Osaka & Tokyo during past residencies in Japan.
